Former Shenango Twp. treasurer Brian Tanner has been charged with theft in office

SHENANGO TWP., Pa. (WKBN) – The former secretary/treasurer for Shenango Township was sentenced Wednesday for his role in the theft of $449,000 from the township.

Brian Tanner, 50, pleaded guilty to seven counts of forgery and three counts of theft. He was sentenced to two and half to five years in prison, followed by five years of probation.

Tanner was also forced to forfeit his assets connected to the stolen funds and his ownership interest in his property located in Shenango Township. He was also ordered to make restitution to the township.

Tanner was fired from his $57,000-a-year job as secretary/treasurer in July. That’s when auditors determined he wrote more than 200 checks worth more than $453,000 to himself and former township auditor Deno DeLorenzo – who has also been fired – from 2011 to 2013.
