KAPLAN, La. (KLFY) – A young mother and her boyfriend now face first-degree murder charges after allegedly beating a small child.
Police Chief Boyd Adams said the couple brought the woman’s son to the emergency room at Kaplan Memorial Hospital Wednesday evening.
Doctors had the child immediately flown to Children’s Hosptial in Lafayette due to the extent of his injuries.
The child remained there on life support until he died early this morning.
The mother, Samantha Babineaux, 24, and her boyfriend Nathaniel Trahan, 23, both of Kaplan, were arrested Wednesday night on charges of attempted first-degree murder.
Adams said the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder after the child died.
Babineaux is currently being held in the city jail without bond. Trahan was booked into the Vermilion Parish jail without bond.
