YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown will soon begin cutting the grass of empty houses in the city.

If grass is above eight inches, the city has the right to cut the lawn. That will cost the homeowner $150.

Abigail Beniston, Youngstown’s superintendent of Code Enforcement, said keeping your grass cut keeps the rodent and insect population down.

“Cutting grass is not something the City of Youngstown desires to do, but we cut the grass in an effort to keep the neighborhoods well maintained,” she said.

The city of Youngstown has around 3,900 vacant homes in the city.
