MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. (AP) – Police are searching for a gunman who shot and wounded a student outside a Pennsylvania high school at the end of the school day.
Authorities say the 17-year-old was hospitalized after the 2:15 p.m. Tuesday shooting outside the Sto-Rox High School in the Pittsburgh suburb of McKees Rock but his injury isn’t believed to be life-threatening.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the shooting happened off school property but the teenager ran inside the school, where emergency responders met him.
Superintendent Terry DeCarbo says about 40 to 60 students were outside getting onto buses but remained calm.
Stowe police Chief Matt Preininger says authorities don’t believe the shooting was related to “any kind of school violence.”
