DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police are investigating a crash into a home early Wednesday morning.
It happened in the 600 block of Kenwood Ave. near Salem Ave. around 4 a.m.
Officials say the driver of a gold Buick traveling southbound on Salem Ave. lost control of the car, clipped a tree, ran over a hill, jumped over an air conditioning unit and into the covered porch of a home.
Dist. Chief Vincent Wiley says there were no injuries with the crash and the gas line wasn’t touched.
The homeowners said they were sleeping upstairs at the time of the crash.
“It leaves me smiling. A car into a structure can be a terrible thing,” he said. “Every once in a while you run into these and given the results, you just kind of chuckle and say, ‘They hit that one just right.’”
Rayshawn Freeman, a witness to the crash, says they tried to help the female driver, but she ran away from the scene.
“Now I’m trying to be superman. I’m about to go save their life. So I’m running across the street and…they’re running, they’re running.”
In his 32 years of working in Dayton, Wiley has never seen a crash like Wednesday morning’s.
“They take the cake. They’ll get the prize at my retirement party,” he said.
