GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Girard is putting together a comprehensive plan addressing the future of the city, and they’d like some input from residents.
The first of two meetings happens at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Girard Multi-Generational Center on Trumbull Ave. The city is working with the Trumbull County Planning Commission.
“We were able to work with them to get an update on our zoning regulations also, which haven’t been updated since 1974,” says Girard councilman Stephen Brooks. “So we are actually getting two programs with the Trumbull County Planning Commission at one time, so this whole plan with the zoning and comprehensive plan is designed to move the city forward.”
The plan focuses on three areas: the neighborhoods, the former Leatherworks property and the Girard Lakes. Of course the Lower Girard Lake has been dry since the dam was breached several years ago.
“The lower lake is probably something that we are really looking for the Trumbull County (Planning) Commission and the citizens to look at what we are going to do with that'” says Brooks. “Because the dam of course, everyone knows the history of the dam, what do we do with that. So getting some input will really help with that.”
