4 teens injured, 1 arrested following police chase in Youngstown

The chase reached speeds of 70 miles per hour.

Four were injured in a police chase and crash in Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Four teens were injured and one person was arrested after a police chase in Youngstown Thursday.

According to a police report, Officers attempted to stop a vehicle at about 9:30 a.m. on South Avenue after an officer on routine patrol spotted a PT Cruiser that had been reported stolen.

The PT Cruiser stopped near the intersection of E. LaClede and Rush Boulevard, but when the officer approached the vehicle, police say the driver took off, leading them on a chase.

According to police, the driver continued onto Indianola Avenue where he cut through the parking lot of Rite Aid and then across Market Street onto W. Hylda Avenue, reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour. He continued down W. Hylda Ave. where he lost control and hit a tree.

Police said five people, all juveniles, exited the vehicle and ran. One was caught by police, but the other three were found lying down near the accident scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Police did not apprehend the driver at that time.

Three of the juveniles were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police were able to track down the driver from his cell phone signal to a house on St. Louis Avenue where he was found hiding in a bathroom. Police arrested the juvenile driver and charged him with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business and reckless operation.

Before being booked into the Juvenile Justice Center, police took the driver to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
