HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – Howland Township trustees have named Assistant Police Chief Nick Roberts as their pick to replace Chief Paul Monroe after he takes office as Trumbull County sheriff.

The trustees announced their pick after many started to question who would replace Monroe.

Roberts said he is honored to be considered for the position and is looking forward to working with township officers.

“We have a fantastic team of officers, and I’ve gotten a lot of support from them,” Roberts said.

Trustee Darlene St. George said the transition should be seamless following the November election. Monroe was the democratic nominee, and there isn’t a challenger in the race.

“Howland Township won’t skip a beat with this change. Paul Monroe was a great chief for Howland Township, and Nick Roberts will be a great chief for Howland Township,” St. George said.

Roberts has been with the township for 12 years and has served four of those years as assistant chief.
