Lucente’s big night powers Ursuline past Mooney

Ursuline's Vinny Lucente threw 11 strikeouts in a complete game effort against the Cardinals.

Struthers, OH (WKBN) – The Ursuline baseball team used a big 5th inning and strong pitching from senior Vinny Lucente to defeat Cardinal Mooney, 6-1 Friday at Cene Park.

Lucente threw 11 strikeouts, with 3 hits, and one run through 7 innings. The Cardinals took the lead on a throwing error in the 1st inning, but couldn’t generate any more offense the rest of the night.

Ursuline broke through in the 5th, thanks to a bases loaded walk, followed by a fielding error that allowed two more runs to score.

Alex Schlosser led the Irish, going 2-4 with 2 singles, while Jimmy Kerrigan went 1-2 with 2 RBI.

Ursuline improves to 6-3 on the season, while Mooney drops to 3-5 overall.
