POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – On Friday, 27 First News Anchor Erika Thomas emceed the 6th annual Wine for Hope at The Lake Club in Poland.
It was her third year hosting the event, which raises money for the Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
The nonprofit organization supports chronically and terminally ill children.
The highlight of the evening is handing out the H.O.P.E. Lifetime Achievement Award. For the first time, a selection committee picked the winner from nominations submitted.
George Gabriel, who works at the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, was nominated for his work in the community.
“I was surprised. I was nominated for doing a lot of things in the community with our individuals with disabilities,” Gabriel said. “To be honest with you, this is an award that may be given to me, but it’s all about the people that have supported me through the years.”
