5K in Cortland raises additional funding for splash pad

The pad is already poured at Pearl Park and features are set to be installed in the coming weeks

A 5K was held to raise the final funding to open a splash pad in Cortland.

CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – A 5K and fun run took place at Coopers Cycle and Fitness in Cortland on Saturday morning to get the final funding to open a new splash pad.

The splash pad has been two years in the making and is expected to open by Memorial Day.

The pad is already poured at Pearl Park and features are set to be installed in the coming weeks.

City Councilman Kevin Piros said this will be another addition to the city park and a free way to cool off in the summer.

“With the lack of pools in Trumbull County, this will provide something locally so folks won’t have to travel outside of the area to go find something such as this,” he said.

Private donations from businesses, organizations and non-profits funded the entire project. No city money is being used to install the splash pad.
