Jonathan Cunning, arrested for felonious assault in Girard, OH

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Girard Police arrested a man after an incident on Sunday where they say he punched his girlfriend in the mouth, sending her to the hospital.

Jonathan Cunning, 24, of Youngstown, is charged with felonious assault.

Police reported to the scene on Stull Ave in Girard around 5 a.m. Sunday after a 911 call came in about a woman who fell and knocked out her teeth.

At the time, the woman told officers she was carrying boxes and fell down the stairs. Police observed injuries to her face, and she was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in an ambulance.

The hospital called around 10 a.m., saying the woman admitted that she didn’t fall down the stairs and that Cunning actually hit her.

She told police that she heard him banging on the door and that he seemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She said Cunning began yelling at her and when she told him to leave, he punched her in the mouth.

The woman claims this is not the first time Cunning has been violent with her.

Police say Cunning has a history of criminal charges including burglary, safecracking, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, robbery of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault and receiving stolen property.
