Inspector works to assess concrete damage to YSU parking deck

A third of the M2 parking deck on Lincoln Avenue will be closed for a complete evaluation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State campus Support Services closed off about a third of the M2 parking deck on Lincoln Avenue after a fairly large chunk of concrete fell on Tuesday.

The concrete damaged a couple cars parked below when it fell from a ramp between the second and third levels, but no one was hurt.

Directors say the area involved was repaired a couple of decades ago and may have worn out because of recent harsh winters.

An inspector assessed the damage Wednesday afternoon.

“We will do a full depth repair over the summer but while we have [the inspector] here, whenever you have something like this happen, we want to do a complete deck evaluation,” said Support Services Director Dan O’Connell.

Ironically, the deck was set to be closed for repairs and improvements in May as part of the University’s “New Look” program unveiled Tuesday by president Jim Tressel.

The inspector’s report is expected in about a week.
