Mooney wins first two games in Catholic Tournament

The Cardinals defeated Akron Hoban and St. Edward Saturday to advance to the Championship Game Sunday.

Stuthers, OH (WKBN) – The Cardinal Mooney baseball team team defeated Akron Hoban, 8-3 in their opening game of the Bob Cene Park Catholic Baseball Tournament Saturday.

The Knights took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning, but the Cardinals came back with a strong 4th inning with four runs to make it a 6-3 game. Mooney used consistent hitting and strong pitching from Devin Curd, who recorded 5 strikeouts in the game.

Cardinal Mooney also took game two, 3-2 over St. Edward in 12 innings to win their pool and advance to the Championship Game Sunday at 5 PM back at Cene Park.
