Salem softball sweeps DH against Columbiana

The Quakers won, 6-4 and 7-1 thanks to strong pitching and consistent hitting Saturday.

Salem, OH (WKBN) – The Salem softball team used strong pitching and consistent hitting to sweep a doubleheader over Columbiana, 6-4 and 7-1 Saturday at Southeast School Field.

In the first game, freshman Bailee Thorn struck out 6 in the complete game victory for Salem. For Columbiana, Morgan Highley went 3-3 and Holly Gotthardt had two hits. Rylee Lieder singled and hit a two run homerun about 230 feet in the fourth inning to stretch the Salem lead.

Alyssa Laubacher went 3-3, Clara Janofa hit two doubles and Bailee Thorn added two singles to pace the Salem offense.

Columbiana (11-4) came into the day with an 11-2 record, but the Quakers used one of their best efforts of the season to pull off the sweep.
