Canfield wins Rubber City showdown with Poland

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Bulldogs, 11-1 Wednesday in Akron.

Akron, OH (WKBN) – The Canfield softball team avenged a 9-8 loss to Poland Monday by defeating the Bulldogs, 11-1 Wednesday at Firestone Stadium.

The game was a part of the Rubber City Rivalry Series put on by the stadium in Akron. The Cardinals jumped off to a quick start by scoring two runs in each of the first two innings and did not look back.

Bridget Durkin was sharp from the circle, throwing 7 strikeouts, with 8 hits in a complete game effort. Durkin improves to 7-3 on the season.

Maura Kennedy led the Cardinals by going 4-4 from the plate with 2 RBI, while Ally Sammarco went 2-5 with 2 RBI of her own.

Canfield improves to 15-4 on the season and host Niles Thursday.
