Jury indicts man charged with hit-and-run death of Cortland jogger

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The man accused of hitting a Cortland jogger with his car, killing her, was indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury on Wednesday.

Russell Lauer, 43, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and OVI in connection to the death of 27-year-old Brittany Szwedko.

Prosecutors say Lauer hit Szwedko on February 27 as she jogged along Ridge Road in Fowler Township.

Police said Lauer was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the crash.

He was also charged with failing to stop after the accident.

Lauer will be arraigned Monday morning.
