During his speech, Knight talked fondly of the Republican front runner, calling him “the most prepared man in history to step in as president of the United States.”
“There has never been a more honest politician than Donald Trump,” Knight said.
One of the key points Knight hammered home was how Trump will take care of the military and veterans.
“There will be no president who has ever had a better relationship with our military,” Knight said. “This man will see that group of people that we so depend on is really taken care of and treated in the best way possible.”
According to Knight, Indiana will play a large part in determining the direction of the country based on how voters cast their ballots.
“You folks have a great opportunity. You folks voting for Donald Trump and throwing him over the top,” Knight said. “If you people will do this, you will be having our government take its first step toward what all of us want America to be like.”
During the speech, the legendary coach also noted how much the state of Indiana loves basketball.
“I want to say to you Indiana people that I owe you a big, big debt of gratitude because nowhere in the world is a sporting group followed better than this state follows basketball,” Knight said. “I just want to thank you for the opportunity I had to coach in this state. It will always be something I will cherish.”
Knight coached Indiana University from 1971-2000. His Hoosiers won three national championships, and his 1976 team remains the last team to have a perfect season.
