YSU student passes away after collapse on basketball court

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Campus police confirmed that a Youngstown State University student passed away after collapsing in the school’s recreation center.

Eric Stone, of Newton Falls, was playing basketball in the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center when he collapsed.

He was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center and pronounced dead.

Stone’s autopsy is tentatively schedule for Friday morning. His family has agreed to donate his organs.

Stone was a junior Electrical Engineering student with a 4.0 grade point average. He was a resident of YSU Weller House and president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers chapter on campus.

Student counseling will be available Wednesday at University Counseling Services in Jones Hall, 330-941-3737. Employees can contact the IMPACT Solutions EAP & Work Life Program at 1-800-277-6007 for counseling.
