HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) – Two men were taken into custody near the Shenango Valley Mall during an investigation into numerous car thefts.
George Lewis Long III, 30, of West Middlesex, was charged with providing false identification to law enforcement, receiving stolen property, access device fraud, theft from a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. Police said he also had a warrant for his arrest for a prior DUI charge in Brookfield, Ohio.
Police said Long provided his brother’s name to police during the investigation, but he was identified by a wanted poster.
Daniel P. Watkins, 39, of Hermitage, was charged with access device fraud, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle.
Police said the arrests were in connection to an investigation into thefts from cars on James Street, Sunset Boulevard, Ridgewood Drive, Easton Road, Esther Lane, Lexington Drive, and Donald and Wilhelm roads.
Police said GPS units, coins, charging cords, an iPad and golf clubs were reported stolen from unlocked vehicles in the area.
Police believe the thefts are related to home burglaries on S. Reel Ridge Road on April 30. At noon that day, police also investigated an attempted theft from a vehicle on Sunset Boulevard, in which nothing was taken.
Both men were taken to the county jail, according to police.
Long’s bond was set at $115,000. Watkins’ bond was set at $5,000.
