Contestants strut runway in pride pageant at YSU

They competed for the titles of Mister and Miss Pride Youngstown

Pride Youngstown held its annual pageant at YSU.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Pride Youngstown hosted its annual pageant at Kilcawley Center on YSU’s campus.

Contestants walked the runway, competing for the titles of Mister and Miss Pride Youngstown.

The event is modeled after Miss America and Miss Universe.

Organizers also gave their opinion on North Carolina’s new bathroom bill, which would require transgender people to use the bathroom of their biological sex. A version of this bill will be brought to Ohio lawmakers.

“A lot of people would say it’s discrimination but I see it as just politicians wanting to jump on something to get their votes. That’s all it is because it’s an election year. We need something. Every election is God, gays or guns,” Carlo Rivera said.

The Department of Justice has given North Carolina’s governor until Monday to scrap the law, saying it violates the Civil Rights Act.
