Students give facelift to Firestone Park in Columbiana

Students participated in the school's 9th Annual Day of Service by sprucing up the park

Students, teachers and staff gathered for a cleanup of Firestone Park in Columbiana, Ohio.

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) -Students from Heartland Christian School gathered Thursday morning to lend some tender, loving care to Firestone Park.

Students, teachers and parents participated in the school’s 9th Annual Day of Service by sprucing up the park. They picked up garbage, weeded, planted and removed leaves and sticks.

Linda Brandenstein, director of School and Community Relations, said that while the students are out of the classroom for the day, they take away a very important life lesson from the project.

“I believe the kids really get an idea of what giving is all about and from here many of them serve in other projects,” Brandenstein said.

The event is held every year to allow students to participate in community service. Each grade level is divided into groups and assigned work.

The students worked in the park from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
