BELOIT, Ohio (WKBN) – West Branch Local Schools has a new superintendent.
Timothy Saxton was hired after a special Board of Education meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
Saxton is currently the superintendent of Brookfield Local Schools, where he has worked since August of 2009. Prior to joining Brookfield, Saxton was Principal of Columbiana High School from 2004 to 2009 and assistant principal of Carrollton High School from 1997 to 2004.
Saxton will be the eighth superintendent to serve the district. He replaces Dr. Scott Weingart, who was superintendent from 2004 to 2015. Doug Phillips was hired in August of 2015 but left in December to pursue a college football coaching opportunity, and Weingart was named interim superintendent until a replacement was found. He will continue in his job through July 2016.
Saxton begins August 1. He will be given a four-year contract and be paid an annual salary of $99,500 — the same annual salary that was paid to Phillips.
“We are pleased to have found an outstanding educator and administrator who understands and appreciates a community such as West Branch,” said Earl Trimmer, West Branch School District president. “We look forward to working with Mr. Saxton and introducing him to the West Branch Community in the coming months.”
Saxton said of the position, “I would like to thank the West Branch Board of Education for their support in naming me to serve as the school district’s next superintendent. I look forward to working with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members in continuing the tradition of excellence that exists within the West Branch Local School District.”
