Trooper injured in Springfield Twp. turnpike crash

The trooper was taken by ambulance to the hospital

The trooper was hit by another vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike.


SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A trooper was injured Monday after a vehicle ran into a cruiser along the Ohio Turnpike in Springfield Township.

The accident happened about 12:20 p.m. near mile marker 236.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said Keith McColpin, 48, of Imperial, Pa., was driving westbound on Interstate 76 in the left lane when he struck the back and right side of a Highway Patrol cruiser, which was traveling westbound on I-76. McColpin was driving a 2015 Dodge Charger.

Trooper Tony Stephens, 50, was injured in the crash. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

McColpin was uninjured.

The crash is under investigation.
