AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – About 10,000 people living in Austintown, Youngstown and other surrounding communities were affected by a widespread power outage Tuesday afternoon.

As of 5:30 p.m., more than 6,000 people were without power in Austintown Township, and almost 2,000 people were without power in Youngstown. Some living in Canfield and other townships were affected.

Current outage details are available on First Energy’s website.

First Energy spokesman Mark Durbin said the outage was due to an issue with a transformer at one of First Energy’s substations. Crews were sent out to fix the issue.

Those living in Youngstown and Campbell also experienced a widespread outage this weekend, but Durbin said he did not believe the outages were related.

As of 6:41 p.m. power was restored to the affected areas.
