WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBN) – Ohio Senator Rob Portman is facing a tough reelection battle this year. His challenger is former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.

Democrats have targeted the Ohio Senate race as one they need to help win back the Senate. Democrats are hoping Donald Trump leading the Republican ticket will help the cause.

Portman says right now he has no plans to have Trump campaign for him.

“I don’t know. I am gonna be my own campaign. We are out there everyday talking about the issues, meeting people and will continue to do that regardless of who we have at the top of the ticket. I would have run my own independent campaign,” Portman said.

A new poll out last week showed Strickland with a very slight lead over Portman, calling the race very tight.
