NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – The Board of Trustees of the Newton Falls Fire District has postponed the swearing-in of fire chief candidate Anita Smith.

The ceremony, which was scheduled for May 24, was continued on advice by the district’s attorney, according to a news release sent to WKBN 27 First News from Zach Svette, chairman of the board.

The delay is due to certification requirements that are pending.

Svette said the board will use the regular monthly meeting to recognize retiring Chief Rick Bauman, who is stepping down after 16 years as chief and 43 years as a member of the fire department.
