YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Three people were in court Tuesday, facing charges in relation to a April 2014 shooting death of Maurise Kerns.

The 24-year-old was found shot to death on the porch of an Idora Avenue home.

Brothers Breandre Allen, 29, and Bralin Allen, 28, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a firearms specification and felonious assault.

Investigators said the Allen brothers shot Kerns in retaliation for an incident that happened on March 21 in which Bralin Allen was shot. Police said the brothers suspected Kerns was responsible.

While prosecutors said Breandre fired the fatal shots, the two sides agreed to reduced charges. Both men are scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday morning.

Breandre faces 20 years in prison, while Bralin is expected to be sentenced to 15.

Michael Wilkins also appeared in court, and his lawyer asked for a competency evaluation, which was granted. His case was continued while he undergoes an evaluation.

Also charged was Antwanette M. Kennedy, who didn’t appear in court on Tuesday.
