NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The Niles Police Department has confirmed it is bringing back one officer who was previously laid off.

This comes after 12 city employees were laid off at the beginning of the year due to budget problems.

The officer who is returning will be focusing on OVI enforcement. The officer is expected to be rehired as soon as Sunday, and once the school year starts this fall, the officer work as the Niles City Schools Resource Officer.

Mayor Tom Scarnecchia said depending on city budget, the department might be able to bring back one more officer to do that job.
