2016 ITCL Blue Tier Football Prepper

Inter-Tri County League Blue Tier

2016 ITCL Blue Tier Prepper
Western Reserve notched back-to-back wins over McDonald (34-27) and Jackson-Milton (26-25) by a combined eight points to all but secure their 5th league championship. Reserve was matched against the eventual state champ Kirtland in the opening round of the playoffs. Although their season came to a close in week eleven, the Blue Devils had finished the year with their 10th consecutive winning season.

Coach Mark Assion guided his Jackson-Milton group to the school’s first post-season appearance in 2015. The Blue Jays (7-4) were aided by a strong senior class led by quarterback Mike Assion (1606 yards passing), running back Joey Burnside (1428 yards rushing) and linebacker Anthony Italiano (136 tackles, 5 sacks).

Despite not advancing to the playoffs (#9 in Region 19), McDonald posted wins over playoff teams East Palestine (21-0), Grand Valley (28-7) and Jackson-Milton (32-22).

The rivalry between McDonald and Western Reserve – two of the ITCL’s cornerstone schools – has escalated to new heights since the league was formed. With the sadness that is felt by so many that the ITCL will no longer be in existence after this campaign, one can find closure in the fact that all six of these schools will be in the same conference next season. The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference will begin play in 2017 with the six current schools that assemble the Blue Tier along with Springfield and Waterloo.
