Woman accused of setting fire to Youngstown apartments

Sonya Shannon indicted by a Mahoning county grand jury on 2 counts of aggravated arson.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman is facing charges after she was accused of setting fire to an apartment complex in Youngstown.

Sonya Shannon is charged with two counts of aggravated arson.

According to Youngstown Fire Department’s Chief Fire Investigator Kurt Wright, Shannon had been evicted from the Lois Court apartment complex in March. On April 26, she went to the apartment and started banging on the door and threatening to kill residents, Wright said.

He said Shannon then lit a fire in the stairwell of the apartment complex.

Investigators say Shannon has an extensive criminal background.
