South Range softball team gets community sendoff to state championship

The Raiders defeated Northwestern, 1-0, Saturday and move on to their first State Tournament in school history.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Family, friends and members of the community gathered at South Range High School early Saturday morning to send off the Raiders softball team on their quest for the first state title in school history.

The team traveled to Firestone Stadium in Akron to face Wheelersburg as they look to cap the best season in school history with a state championship.

The team manager told FirstNews that the championship means a lot to both the girls and the community.

“This is the first time a girls’ team at South Range has ever made it to the state tournament, and if we can bring home the trophy today, it’ll be the first time in South Range history that any South Range team won a state final,” said Jeff DeRose, manager of the South Range softball team.
