The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown wanted to show people that successful marriages can still exist

159 couples renewed their vows Sunday at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – 159 couples renewed their vows Sunday at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

Couples celebrating their 25th anniversary all the way up to a 71st anniversary said their big “I Do’s” again in the special mass led by Bishop George Murry.

In a time when our county’s divorce rate is 50 percent, the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown wanted to show that successful marriages can still exist.

“Not only are we proud of them for their individual accomplishments, but we want them to be a living witness of what God calls us to in living out marriage,” said David Schmidt of the Diocese of Youngstown.

Schmidt said this was one of their largest celebrations yet, a total of 7,623 years of marriage between all of the people. Couples received a personalized certificate at the end of the ceremony.
