CHAMPION, Ohio (WKBN) – Children who will be in kindergarten next year in Champion are already getting ready for school.
The Champion Rotary Club held its Safety Town program on Thursday.
Rotary organizers work specifically with the Champion School District to teach kids the things that they need to know to feel comfortable when school starts in the fall.
The children met firefighters and looked at emergency gear as well as learned other important safety procedures.
“Our Safety Town is to make them feel safe in the environment of the school and away from their parents for the first time. So we do things like bus safety, playground safety, animal safety. If they’re getting on or off the bus, they might see a stray animal,” said Rotary Club President Babette Sisler.
This is the second year Rotary has put on the program.
