A woman was impaled by a beach umbrella at Virginia Beach, Va.


VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (WAVY) — Police say a woman died after wind blew an umbrella into her chest on the Oceanfront Wednesday.

According to authorities, dispatchers received a call for service around 5:07 p.m. for a woman in cardiac arrest on the beach at 33rd Street.

Police say an investigation revealed that a 56-year-old woman from Chester, Virginia, was on the beach when a strong gust of wind blew an anchored beach umbrella across the sand, hitting the victim. When medics arrived, they found the woman suffering from a life-threatening injury.

She was transported to a local hospital, but ultimately succumbed to her injury.

Police are investigating the incident. There is no evidence of foul play, according to police.
