CIA: No evidence that Saudi gov’t helped 9/11 attackers

Police investigation generic

WASHINGTON (AP) – The head of the CIA says there is no evidence that the Saudi government or senior Saudi officials helped to orchestrate the Sept. 11 attacks.

Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia. And a congressional inquiry into the 2001 attacks examined allegations of support by the Saudi government.

While the results of that investigation were released in 2002, the 28 pages focused on Saudi Arabia remain secret. President Barack Obama is expected to order the release of the pages as early as this month.

CIA Director John Brennan said in a weekend interview with al-Arabiya, a Saudi-owned broadcaster, that there was “no evidence to indicate that the Saudi government as an institution or Saudi senior officials individually supported the Sept. 11 attacks.”
