BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Boardman and Canfield fire departments responded to an apartment fire on Southwoods Avenue overnight.

Crews were on-scene fighting the flames before midnight and put the fire out shortly before 1 a.m.

An apartment on the third floor of The Villages at Southwoods caught fire and was badly charred. Firefighters pulled out most of the burnt insulation from behind the walls.

Everyone made it out of the building safely.

Those who live in the building were told they will not be able to return until the crews clean, investigate and determine the structural safety of the apartments.

Fire crews shut the water off while maintaining the fire. The water has yet to be restored but maintenance crews should have it back on either tonight or tomorrow.

Once the water is restored, most residents will be able to return back to their apartments.
