POLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – One little girl’s endless determination to beat the odds was celebrated Sunday afternoon in Poland.
7-year-old Aubrey Taylor is a bright, amazing little girl who instantly can put a smile on your face. Sunday, her family held the first annual Aubrey Taylor Flag Football Tournament in her honor.
36 teams and about 200 people took place in the tournament. It was their way of giving back to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, a foundation that has helped Taylor defy the odds.
“Ever since the day she was in the NICU and I was cheering her on, I would always whisper to her and tell her we got this, because I honestly didn’t think we could do this, and seven years later, here we are,” said Taylor’s mother.
Taylor’s mother and cousins were so thrilled with the turn out, they said they will definitely be having this tournament for years to come.
“We were with the A-team when Aubrey was born. They’ve helped us so much. They gave her an iPad. There are so many wonderful programs that they have in the community, and they have helped us tremendously so we wanted to give back to them,” said Taylor’s cousin Christine Moyer.
Since she was born, Taylor has been amazing her family one step at a time.
“They said there was a chance she wouldn’t walk until she was five, and she was walking by 17 months. We just work with it,” said Taylor’s mother.
