49ers on hand for DeBartolo Scholarship Dinner

Youngstown, OH (WKBN) – The annual Eddie Debartolo Jr. Scholarship Dinner Auction was held at the Covelli Centre Monday.

The night featured another great turnout with food from local restaurants and an auction with sports memorabilia, all benefiting the scholarship.

Several big names present once again this year, including 49ers head coach Chip Kelly and wide receiver Torrey Smith. Both were excited to make a stop in Youngstown and see the roots of their owners.

“I think it is awesome,” said Kelly.  “I think that is the one thing about the York family is that they never forgot their roots and where they are from and what they are all about. It is part of what the organization is. Youngstown is a blue collar town, I know the reputation it has. I know what a great program that Bo [Pelini] has over there at YSU.”

“I can tell it is a blue collar city,” said Smith. “You can tell the way it was built, driving around I actually saw the building that has the 49ers logo outside which is pretty cool. Cool to understand where your bosses family is from.”
