Bishop Murry assigns 3 priests to Youngstown area churches

Reverends Martin Celuch, John Jerek and Craig McHenry will start their new duties this year

The 20th annual White Mass was held at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Three priests have been assigned to local parishes by Bishop George V. Murry.

Assignments include:

  • Reverend Martin Celuch, appointed pastor of Christ Our Savior Parish, Struthers, effective July 1.
  • Reverend John Jerek appointed pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Youngstown, effective September 1.
  • Reverend Craig McHenry appointed pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Warren, effective July 1.

Father Celuch has served as associate pastor at St. Nicholas Parish in Struthers and Holy Family Parish in Poland. On May 1, 2013 he was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Sorrow Parish in Youngstown. He was named an assistant in the diocesan Office of Canonical Services in 2007. On July 1, 2015 he was appointed Adjutant Judicial Vicar. Father Celuch was incardinated into the Diocese of Youngstown in 2008.

Father Jerek was ordained on June 18, 1988 in St. Columba Cathedral by the Most Reverend James W. Malone. He served as associate pastor at St. Nicholas in Struthers for three years before accepting a post as priest catechist and later associate principal at John F. Kennedy High School in Warren. He was appointed pastor of University Parish Center in August 1996 and added the role of diocesan director of Campus Ministry in July 1998.

Father McHenry studied for the priesthood at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus and at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He was ordained on June 21, 2014 by the Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J. He has served as Parochial Vicar at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton since July 12, 2014. Father McHenry is a member of the Priest Personnel Board.
