NORTH LIMA, Ohio – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev Msgr John A. Zuraw at 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Rose Church in Girard, for John Paul Stroney, Jr., 90 of North Lima, who passed away peacefully Monday morning.
John Paul was born January 26, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of John Paul and Anne Snyder Stroney, Sr.
He was a 1944 graduate of Wilson High School.
John Paul was a journeyman electrician for I.B.E.W. Local 573 in Warren from 1953 to 1989.
He was a lifetime member of St. Rose Church and the Knight of Columbus. John Paul enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing and gardening. He was a Army veteran and was trained at Fort Knox as a tank driver, but was not sent to the European theater due to his contracting pneumonia. He was transferred to recon and landed in Korea the day WWII ended in the Pacific Theater.
His wife the former Marie Denise Buckley, whom he married Sept 18, 1948, passed away November 16, 1989.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children Paul Dennis (Kathryn) Stroney, Sr. of Canton, Robert James (William Haas) Stroney of Palm Springs, California, Loretta Marie (Bruce) Peters of Rome, Ohio and Lynn Stroney of Sarasota, Florida. Two grandchildren Greg Sekula and Paul Dennis Stroney, Jr., a great grandson Jameson Paul Stroney, a sister-in-law Elizabeth Stroney , a brother-in-law Jerry (Marlene) Buckley and their children Jerry, John and Susan.. Besides his wife, John Paul is preceded in death by a brother James Stroney.
Friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Friday at St. Rose Church in Girard.
