BUTLER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A Salem man has been killed in an accident on State Route 62 in Butler Township.

The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Stanley Miller.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said Miller was driving eastbound on Route 62 when a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee turned into a private driveway, striking Miller’s 2000 Chevrolet S-10 truck. The truck overturned, stopping on its roof on the side of Route 62 in front of Berger Electric, near the Salem Country Club.

Miller was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Highway Patrol.

The Jeep Cherokee was driven by 77-year-old Paul Strawbridge of New Waterford. Strawbridge was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by ambulance. His condition is unknown at this time.

The road was shut down and traffic was backed up for hours after the crash, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. The Ohio Department of Transportation says over 40,000 cars travel on the road every day.

“We waited for the scene investigation and where the Jeep ended up on the road, it blocked most of the road,” said Barry Thompson from Highway Patrol.

Closing the road also gave crews time to clean up the scene.

“Just a lot of fluids from the way they hit. Front end to front end, fluids over the roadway. Plus some parts became dislodged and were laying on the roadway,” Thompson said.

State troopers say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and that any charges are pending at this point. The crash remains under investigation.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story reported that 400,000 cars pass through State Route 62 every day. WKBN regrets the error.
