Former governor, US Senator George Voinovich laid to rest

The 79-year-old Voinovich died in his sleep last Sunday at his home in Cleveland

EUCLID, Ohio (AP) – George Voinovich, the former Cleveland mayor, Ohio governor and U.S. senator, has been laid to rest.

Numerous current and former state and national officeholders attended Voinovich’s funeral Friday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Euclid.

The 79-year-old Voinovich died in his sleep last Sunday at his home in Cleveland.

He’s being remembered as a skillful politician guided by his principles, faith and integrity.

Among those in attendance at Friday’s funeral were current Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish, and former mayors Jane Campbell and Dennis Kucinich.

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, and former Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery also attended.
