YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The YMCA is helping young swimmers be safe in the water.

About 70 kids took part in a program Friday at the North Side Pool in the City of Youngstown. The instructors were there to teach the kids about water safety, according to YMCA Aquatics Director Chris Hughes.

“We’re basically teaching kids about water safety, pool rules, what to do if one of their friends gets into trouble, how to help them without putting themselves into danger,” Hughes said.

Organizers also wanted to stress how important it is for parents to be around the water while their children are swimming.
