NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The Niles Narcotics/Street Crime Unit is up and running again, now that all of the laid-off officers are back at work.

The group of officers tackles street level crimes that uniformed patrols can’t look into.

Captain John Marshall says that when the officers were laid off, the police department didn’t have the manpower to follow up on these investigations. The department is excited to have the unit back, since there was a lot of success with it.

“We anticipate that the special response team, the team that actually executes our warrants that was also deactivated during that time, they should be back up and running,” Marshall said. “Once we start developing some cases and get some information, we’ll execute warrants with respect to that.”

The department set up an email address for tips. If you suspect drug activity, send information, as specific as possible, to
