BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The manager of Men’s Warehouse in Boardman is facing charges related to the theft of about $30,000 from the store.
Boardman Police say the thefts occurred over the last two years. The investigation began after the manager, Samuel Strine, was found to be making a large amount of returns, some after the store had closed for the day.
Police said Strine was issuing returns on items from previous customers, reselling the items at a discounted rate and pocketing the extra cash. Police said those customers never returned items, and Strine’s scam ensured that the inventory wouldn’t be off and that he would get commission for the items.
Strine admitted to the fraudulent returns but said he used the money toward other customers’ purchases to get more commission, according to a police report. He denied taking the extra cash.
Store security said there was no proof of Strine’s claims, however. They wanted to press charges due to him not cooperating.
Strine was arrested and charged with grand theft. He was taken to the Boardman Police Department for booking and later released on bond.
The Boardman Police Department did not have a photo available of Strine on Thursday.
