YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Two Youngstown State University football players have been indicted on charges related to shots fired near the Wick Avenue parking deck.
Casimier Mitchell, Jr. is charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and discharge of a firearm on prohibited premises.
Lee Wright is charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.
The charges stem from an incident when an officer sitting in his cruiser heard shots fired near the parking deck. Seconds later, a black Ford Mustang filled with three men who were laughing drove by, according to a police report.
Police said no other vehicles or people were in the area.
Mitchell was initially charged. Prosecutors later filed charges against Wright.
Both players are linebackers with the Penguins and under a scholarship with the team.
The university said they will remain on the team for now but will not be allowed to participate in any drills while their cases are pending.
