Youngstown finds 16 code violations at Gallagher building

The Gatta Company has until August 6 to bring the building into compliance or it could face criminal charges

The old Gallagher Building in downtown Youngstown remains vacant after three years.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A story that First News reported last week has led to a long list of violations filed against the owner of a downtown building.

On July 1, First News reported that the Gallagher building was falling into disrepair. After that story aired, the city sent out inspectors to the building.

Sixteen different code violations were found, according to the Notice of Violation filed by the city’s Code Enforcement Department. Violations included not taking care of weeds, defacement and windows and door frames.

The Gallagher building is owned by the Gatta Company of Niles. The company has until August 6 to bring the building into compliance or it could face criminal charges.

The building once housed Cedars Lounge, which was forced out to make way for a new brew-pub and apartments. The building has sat empty for three years, however.

Because little work has been done to the building, it could be in danger of losing almost $1.4 million in state tax credits given to the project.

First News contacted the owner on Monday, but messages have not been returned.
