POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Six fire departments were called out to a massive barn fire in Poland Township on Tuesday.

Smoke could be seen for miles from where the fire began, at Struthers Road near Arrel Road, around 11:45 a.m.

Western Reserve Joint Fire District Chief David Comstock said the humidity was a challenge in fighting the fire.

“We also had a very large cornfield that caught fire as a result of the embers, and that was spreading toward several houses and other barns, so it was a large scene, and we had firefighters and trucks up and down the road,” he said.

Farm equipment was inside the building and was extensively damaged. A man who stores his equipment inside the barn said two antique tractors being stored there were supposed to be at the Canfield Fair.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In addition to the Western Reserve Joint Fire District, the Beaver Township, Springfield, Struthers, New Middletown and Lowellville fire departments responded.
