SALEM, Ohio – Bernice E. Melitschka, age 99, of Salem, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Courtyard of Lexington in Salem. She was born September 1, 1916 in Sebring, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles D. and Bessie (Lewis) Snevel.
She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. Bernice was a member of the First Christian Church, Charter member of Salem Historical Society, Charter member and past president of the former Salem Republican Women’s Club, Past Noble Grand and fifty year member of the former Home Rebecca Lodge of Salem, Hanover Township Historical Society, Sandy and Beaver Canal Association, Salem Saxon Ladies Lodge, Life member of Ladies Elks Auxiliary, Salem Community Hospital Auxiliary, Salem-Perry Township Republican Club, and Salem Preservation Society.
Her husband, Matt A. Melitschka Jr. whom she married January 8, 1944, preceded her in death November 3, 1968.
No service or calling hours will be held. Private burial will be held Friday morning, July 13, 2016 at Grandview Cemetery.
It was Bernice’s wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 1151 E. 6th St. Salem, Ohio 44460 or the Salem Historical Society, 208 S. Broadway, Salem, Ohio 44460.
